Naxos
The largest island in Cyclades, one of the most attractive Greek Islands, combines golden sands with mountain beauty. Large enough to be explored, Naxos promises unforgettable holidays.
The Southwest part of Naxos Island is almost one long sandy beach, while the northern part is green and mountainous. The central part is filled with scattered farms, vineyards, olive groves and hundreds of ancient sites, pretty villages, colourful churches and unique archaeological sites.
Naxos/Chora , the island's port and capital, is a typical medieval Cycladic town, a maze really of narrow streets and passages. Naxos is of major archaeological interest, being the centre of the Cycladic civilisation in ancient pre-classic times. It's full of museums, temples and sites from different chronological periods. Landmark of the Island is the famous Portara hill, a holy site of pre-classic deities, located at a cape in the north of Chora.
Don't miss the medieval Castle with its breathtaking view, housing the Venetian museum and the Catholic Archdiocese, located at the top of a hill in the centre of Naxos town.
